Capacity of multiple-transmit multiple-receive antenna architectures

چکیده
The capacity of wireless communication architectures equipped with multiple transmit and receive antennas and impaired by both noise and cochannel interference is studied. We find a closed-form solution for the capacity in the limit of a large number of antennas. This asymptotic solution, which is a sole function of the relative number of transmit and receive antennas and the signal-to-noise and signal-to-interference ratios (SNR and SIR), is then particularized to a number of cases of interest. By verifying that antenna diversity can substitute for time and/or frequency diversity at providing ergodicity, we show that these asymptotic solutions approximate the ergodic capacity very closely even when the number of antennas is very small.

Multiple-input multiple-output wireless communication systems using antenna pattern diversity
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems employ multiple transmit and multiple receive antennas to obtain significant improvement in channel capacity. However, the capacity is limited by the correlation of subchannels in non-ideal scattering environments. In this paper, we investigate MIMO systems that use antennas with dissimilar radiation patterns to introduce deco...
متن کاملMIMO WIRELESS AND MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS Design and performance assessment of maximum capacity MIMO architectures in line-of-sight
The authors investigate the capacity of multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems in line-of-sight (LoS). Under this scenario, the channel is normally rank deficient owing to the linear dependence of the LoS rays’ phases on the receive elements. To overcome this problem, specifically designed antenna arrays can be employed, where the antenna elements are positioned in such a ...
متن کاملCapacity-approaching rate function for layered multiantenna architectures
The simultaneous use of multiple transmit and receive antennas can unleash very large capacity increases in rich multipath environments. Although such capacities can be approached by layered multi-antenna architectures with per-antenna rate control, the need for short-term feedback arises as a potential impediment, in particular as the number of antennas—and thus the number of rates to be contr...

We present in this paper some capacity and transinformation measurements for a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmission system consisting of 4 transmit and 4 receive antennas. The measurements have been performed in a small office scenario where the Line of Sight (LOS) is usually present. We will derive the channel capacity for a frequency selective MIMO channel taking into account th...
